A Senate inquiry into Australia's aviation sector has heard Qantas appears to be receiving extra federal government protection after a lack of public, decisive reasoning into denying Qatar Airways extra flights caused an investigation to be launched.
Five women who were allegedly strip-searched in Doha brought in lawyers to represent on their behalf after Transport Minister Catherine King admitted their case was a part of the discerning process.
The lawyers told the inquiry their clients support the government’s decision to block extra Qatar flights.
The Senate inquiry also focused on the ACCC’s claim that Qantas had been hoarding slots amid an ongoing Albanese government relationship.
Airline Intelligence and Research Managing Director Dr Tony Webber has admitted during the inquiry, the way it seems the current industry structure is set up cannot be helpful for the Australian economy.
