The ultrasonic sensor previously used on the Venturi flume in the sewage treatment plant in Schiltach had to contend with strong solar radiation. In ultrasonic measurement, the sound propagation time changes when the temperature increases, which in turn causes inaccuracies in the measuring process.
By contrast, the new radar sensor VEGAPULS C 21 Is totally unaffected by temperature fluctuations and therefore considerably more accurate than ultrasound. To make it easy to read the flow rate from a distance, in sunlight or in the dark, a VEGAMET 861 controller was also installed.
Unlike ultrasonics, the radar sensor never breaks a sweat, even in the blazing sun.
