Originally built in 1779 (making it 246 years old), the jail is now partly a hotel and heritage attraction. The guided tour gives a fascinating but grim insight into what life was like for prisoners. You’ll see the original gallows, along with plenty of artefacts that have survived the centuries.

It’s a unique mix of history and atmosphere – from chilling tales of executions to the incredible architecture that still stands today.
