Explanation:
Fidchell is a board game not unlike chess that appears in several Irish texts. The Uí Neill are a dynasty who ruled much of medieval Ireland. Saint Columba was an Irish abbot in the 500s. Wales and the Britons is a dense history book. Proinsias Mac Cana is an Irish medieval linguistic scholar. Cursive minuscule is a script used in medieval manuscripts. There is a famous poem written in the margin of an Irish manuscript starting with the line "the wind is bitter tonight", about the constant threat of Viking raids.
