From 500% To 100%: U.S. Softens Russia Oil Tariff Threat For India And China

Описание: The U.S. has revised a proposed Russia sanctions bill, reducing the maximum tariff on countries purchasing Russian oil and natural gas from 500 percent to 100 percent. The updated proposal could provide significant relief for major buyers such as India and China, while continuing to pressure Moscow over its energy exports and senior officials.

The revised legislation also grants President Donald Trump the authority to waive sanctions if doing so serves U.S. national interests. Unlike the original draft, which proposed blanket tariffs on all importing countries, the new version applies the highest tariff only to the five largest buyers of Russian energy. Backed by both Republican and Democratic senators, the bill has already secured 26 co-sponsors and is considered more likely to advance through Congress.
