Описание: Longtime educator Rachel Murat tells the story of the food insecurity in her local community. The district food pantry she founded almost 12 years ago has grown larger than she could have ever imagined amid the COVID-19 pandemic, creating and revealing more need. In her talk, Rachel illustrates the scale of childhood hunger in America, how it sometimes remains below the surface, and the duty each of us has to make a difference in our communities. Rachel Murat has been an educator at Maine-Endwell High School for 25 years and is the 2020 New York State Teacher of the Year. Throughout those years she has taught classes in grades 9-12, including AP Government and Politics, Digital Citizenship, Digital Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Global History, US History GSuite, Sociology, and Psychology. She earned her Bachelor’s from Ohio University in 1995 and her Master’s from Binghamton University in 2001. She has been featured in several publications, including Ozy Media, for her work in the field of Digital Citizenship. She is a co-author of DigCitKids: Lessons Learning Side-by-Side, to Empower Others Around the World. She is very active on social media and views it as a way to break down the traditional limitations of professional development and a means to connect both her students and classroom to the world. She is the Founder and President of M-EALS and Leadership, a federally recognized 501c3 nonprofit district food pantry system that feeds over 100 district families with weekly home deliveries of food. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
