Connected speech is the way in which words connect when used in a specific sequence in spoken language. In this video, I explain why understanding connected speech is important when understanding and imitating native English speakers.
In this video, we discuss a type of connected speech called gemination. Gemination occurs when a word ends in the same consonant sound that begins the next word. It is a type of consonant to consonant linking. When this happens, the consonant sound is not doubled, but said once for a longer period of time.
