I've reviewed various products from Robosen in the past, including auto-transforming Transformers as well as a Buzz Lightyear robot. Now their Disney/Pixar collaboration continues with the release of "Mini Robots". While Robosen has sent me some products in the past to review, this one was fully purchased on my own (though they later did reach out to me about sending this product, after I had already filmed my entire review, so I declined).
These are smaller scale robots that connect to a standard base. On the base, the robots can be activated to say and do various actions. However, because of the small scale and connection to the base, these robots have much more limited movement compared to the larger full scale robots they've made in the past. These ones may move the head and/or the arms a little bit, along with the speaker on the base playing some voice lines. You can connect it to Robosen Studio to program your own actions or Robosen Hub to download actions created by others, both of which are done via computer.
These robots are not nearly as impressive as what Robosen has done in the past, however they are also a fraction of the cost. They come in sets but we're talking around $250 for the full Toy Story set compared to $1000+ for a Transformers robot for example. And they do a great job at capturing the likeness of the characters, with plenty of voice clips. There is great attention to detail, including the strawberry scent on Lotso.
I think if you're a fan of these characters and you want something smaller that could sit on a desk, this is a decent option. But these are limited in terms of capabilities given that they have to be connected to the base and they don't walk around and perform complex actions.
