The War For Guild Wars 3 Has Already Begun!

Before we’ve seen a proper gameplay showcase, the Guild Wars community is already divided over what Guild Wars 3 should be. From the new art direction and accusations of “UE5 slop,” to concerns about ArenaNet supporting multiple Guild Wars games, the playable species debate, and fears that GW3 could lose the identity that made Guild Wars special, the battle over this game has already started.

But is the negativity justified?

In this video, I break down what ArenaNet has actually confirmed about Guild Wars 3, including ancient Orr, the Vaelwardens, momentum-based movement and combat, PC and PlayStation 5 support, the Fall 2027 beta, the new playable species, and ArenaNet’s plan to position Guild Wars 3 somewhere between Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 on the MMO spectrum.

I also look at the backlash surrounding the reveal, community reactions to the new visual direction, concerns about the future of Guild Wars 2, and why ArenaNet may already be fighting a war of perception long before most players ever get their hands on the game.

Guild Wars 3 could be one of the biggest opportunities the MMORPG genre has had in years.

Or the expectations surrounding it could tear it apart before it gets the chance.
