Описание: (AP) Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed the media on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, as the United States and Israel launch more strikes against Iran.

Hegseth’s news conference came days after his appearance on "60 Minutes," where he stressed “this is only just the beginning,” when referring to the conflict with Iran.

The U.S. and Israel began large-scale military attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.

The first attacks focused on Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was declared dead shortly after the attacks began. Iranian state TV announced early Monday that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has been named supreme leader. Khamenei, who is seen as even more hard-line than his father, will be in charge of Iran’s armed forces and any decision about Tehran’s nuclear program.

Since the conflict began, the Pentagon has said seven Americans have died.

Iran has launched numerous drone attacks on countries across the region.

The strikes came two days after the latest U.S.-Iran talks as Trump pressured Tehran for a deal to constrain its nuclear program, building up a fleet of warships in the region. Iran's theocracy has struggled with growing dissent following nationwide protests that began over the economy but turned into anti-government ones.
