This is a look at the Hofwyl - Broadfield Plantation in Darien Georgia. Five generations of the same family owned it from 1806 to 1973. The final Heir was Ophelia Dent who died in 1973 and donated the 1200 acres of what was left of the once 7300 acre plantation to the State of Georgia. Ophelia was friends with Margret Mitchell who wrote "Gone with the Wind" . Mitchell visted the plantation often. The history of the plantation also mirrors that of thee mythical Tara from Mitchell's best selling novel. Once a rice plantations pre-civil war, turned Dairy in 1913 and now a State Historic Site.
