Today we visit Sekumpul Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Bali. It is located in the north of the island, somewhat hidden in a valley.
The most beautiful and highest waterfall in Bali "Sekumpul" is located north of the central lakes Danau Bratan and Danau Buyan (Bedugul). A narrow mountain road leads from the main road to the starting point of the short hiking tour. The journey alone is an experience; on a clear day you can see all the way to the coast. Sekumpul Waterfall is actually made up of seven separate waterfalls, all relatively close to each other. The highest of these waterfalls is around 80 meters high, while the others are around 40-50 meters high. This beautiful area, which is very popular with tourists, is located in Sekumpul Village Municipality in Buleleng District.
A guide is required to descend to the waterfall. From him we learn a lot of interesting facts about the region, the waterfalls and also the people who live here. And he also gives us one or two photo and film tips.
The path into the valley is steep and involves many stairs. At the beginning we walk through small farms, but then there is only the impressive tropical nature. From here you have fantastic views of the various waterfalls, the sound of which accompanies our hike. After about 30 minutes we reach the bottom. There is now only a river between the waterfall and us, but there is no bridge here! But crossing the river is easily manageable because the current is not strong and now in the dry season the water barely reaches our knees.
We first go to the Hidden Waterfall. It is so named because it is not visible from above and is located slightly away from the other waterfalls. We reach a small valley basin. The green overgrown rock walls and the contrast of the spraying waterfall look like something from a fairy tale world.
Then we continue to the actual Sekumpul waterfall. We repeatedly wade through small streams and climb over wet, slippery rocks. Bathing shoes are an advantage here. But the majestic sight rewards us for our efforts. With a drop of 80 meters, Sekumpul Waterfall is a spectacular scene. You can also swim in the pool. The water is surprisingly quite cold, even though we are in the tropics.
Finally we go to the three Fiji waterfalls. These fall over numerous rocks into the valley and the spray forms a kind of mist, which, together with the green vegetation and the rocks, creates a magical atmosphere. Without the other tourists, you would feel like you were in a dense jungle far from civilization.
Wet but enthusiastic, we start our way back, which now takes us back up the many stairs. This is much more strenuous than the descent, but it's done after 45 minutes.
On the way back we pass a viewpoint over Lake Tamblingan that we visited a few days ago. • Lake Bratan and Lake Tamblingan, Bali - my...
Here in the parking lot there are lots of monkeys, the ubiquitous long-tailed macaques, waiting for the tourists' treats.
