How Safe is the 4% Withdrawal Rule?

Описание: Those who are looking to become financially independent will likely have heard of the 4% safe withdrawal rate. What is implied in this 'safe' rate is that you keep you investments vested no matter if your investments dips 50% or not. Having your life's savings dip 50% will likely cause one to panic and could be a weak point for those looking to feel secure with this methodology. One is of course supposed to not sell low and just keep on investing but this casts aside the large psychological impact that often happens in a long sustained down turn. Another weak point is that this 4% rule will not work if there is a down turn early on your retirement EVEN if you keep vested due to the erosion of your principal from the withdrawals. Another weak point is that health care costs are rising and will likely increase as you age making living costs more expensive in the later years of retirement.
