Viking and Fincantieri have announced the Viking Libra, a 54,300-ton, 998-passenger cruise ship, will be the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise vessel. The Libra, and its sister ship Astrea, will be built at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard, with the Libra expected to be delivered in late 2026. The ships will feature a hybrid propulsion system using liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells, enabling zero-emission operation.
Zero-Emission Operation:
The ships will be able to operate with zero emissions due to their hybrid propulsion system, allowing them to access environmentally sensitive areas. 
Capacity: Each ship will have 499 staterooms, accommodating up to 998 passengers. 
Propulsion System: The ships will utilize a hybrid propulsion system combining liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells, capable of producing up to 6 MW of power.
Delivery Schedule: The Viking Libra is expected to be delivered in late 2026, with the Astrea scheduled for 2027.
