This was one of the wildest hikes we’ve done in Chile.
Deep in the Araucanía region lies Alpehue — a hidden trail that winds through volcanic terrain, steaming geysers, icy river crossings, and lush forest. We crossed the river several times along the trail, hiked over uneven ground, climbed rocks, and finally soaked in natural hot springs surrounded by raw nature and a peaceful valley. 🔥💦
This hike near the Nevados de Sollipulli volcanic complex is raw, remote, and absolutely worth it — but definitely not for the faint of heart. Expect cold water crossings, volcano views, rocky trails, and surreal geothermal landscapes that feel like another planet.
