India To Launch Nationwide HPV Vaccination Programme For Girls Aged 14 To Prevent Cervical Cancer

Описание: India is set to launch a nationwide human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme to prevent cervical cancer, fulfilling a major women's health promise from Budget 2024. The free vaccination drive will target adolescent girls aged 14 across the country through government health facilities including Ayushman Arogya Mandir, community and district hospitals, and government medical colleges. The programme will be voluntary, with all vaccination sessions conducted under the supervision of trained medical officers. One dose is sufficient to prevent the infection, with the ideal time being just when a girl reaches puberty. The HPV vaccine protects against HPV types 16, 18, 6, and 11. More than 200 million doses have been administered globally over the past 15 years. With this launch, India will join over 160 countries that have already introduced HPV vaccination in their national immunisation schedules. Sources indicate that one crore doses are already in the country, with 2.6 crore doses to be supplied by Gavi by 2027.
