Welcome into the page of Irish writer William Butler Yeats’ autobiography and a passage in which he recalls a moment of inspiration from Henry David Thoreau.
After living from 1845-47 in a small cabin that he built on the shore of Walden Pond Concord, Massachusetts, writer and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) wrote his famed book WALDEN: or, LIFE IN THE WOODS. The book was published in 1854. Thoreau died in 1862.
William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1865 (died 1939. When he was a child, his father read Thoreau’s WALDEN to him, and the idea of Thoreau living by a pond shore, in a small cabin he built himself, among bean rows, bees, and the peace of nature, stayed with Yeats throughout his life later leading to Yeats penning his now famed poem, “The Lake Isle of Innisfree”.
