Militaries Reopen Dialogue, 160 Killed in Nigeria, and European Interest Rates Unchanged

Описание: The U.S. and Russia have agreed to reestablish high level military-to-military dialogue following a meeting between senior Russian, Ukrainian, and American military officials in Abu Dhabi. High level military communication was suspended in 2021, just before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Nigerian government has announced a new military operation to tackle Islamic militants after more than 160 people were killed in western Kwara state. No group has claimed responsibility, but locals suspect Islamic militant groups. Nigeria’s President announced late Wednesday that an army battalion will be deployed to the area.

And the European Central Bank is leaving interest rates unchanged as economies that use the Euro showed modest but resilient growth. The bank on Thursday left its benchmark deposit rate at 2%, where it has been since June after a series of cuts from the peak of 4% starting in mid-2024.
