In this episode, I traveled to Surin, Thailand, a quiet city that rarely sees foreign tourists.

The night began at Tawandang, where traditional regional dances, colorful costumes, and live music filled the stage. For the price of one plate of food and two beers, I experienced a performance that felt far richer than what I paid.

The next morning, reality felt different.

No early-opening cafés. No tourist-friendly signs. Just empty streets and a Grab motorcycle ride toward the train station. I tried a local soup made with pig intestines, but it wasn’t for me. The waitress looked at me with hopeful eyes, as if I were some kind of opportunity in a city that doesn’t see many foreigners. I left quietly. I didn’t want to create false hope.

I planned to stay two days in Surin. After one, I was already restless.

Then Google Maps led me to a famous grilled chicken restaurant far from my hotel, deep in what felt like the countryside. The elderly owner looked stunned to see a foreigner walk in. But the young waitress there changed the mood entirely.

When I realized she hadn’t eaten dinner yet, I invited her to join me. We shared a simple meal at the same table. For a brief moment, it felt intimate, warm, almost surreal in the middle of rural Thailand.

Before leaving, she hugged me goodbye.

Back near the hotel, I ended the night at Sahara Pub, a local spot known for its handsome staff and lively atmosphere.
