"මුත්තියංකට්ටු" වැව ආසන්නයට ලගා වන විට රාත්‍රී බෝ වී තිබීම නිසාවෙන් දැඩි අන්ධකාරය මධ්‍යයේම වැව් පිටියේ කදවුරු බැදීමට අපට සිදු විනි. මුලතිව් මහ වනාන්තරයට මෙපිටින් පිහිටා ඇති "මුත්තිලියන්කට්ටු" වැව ඉවුරේ කදවුරු බැදගත් අප රාත්‍රී ආහාරය සකස් කර ගත්තේ තවත් සොදුරු සංචාරයක් කේන්ද්‍රය කරගත් සොදුරු මතකයන් ගොන්නක ආරම්භය සනිටුහන් කරමිනි.

සීතල රාත්‍රීයක් අවසානයේ හිරුගේ අරුණැල්ලෙන් ආරම්භ වූ උදෑසන ඉතා සොදුරු උදෑසනක් වූයේ "මුත්තිලියන්කට්ටු" වැව් ඉවුර කුරුල්ලන්ගෙන් පිරී ගිය ඉතා සොදුරු උදෑසනක් වූ නිසාවෙනි.

"මුත්තිලියන්කට්ටු" වැවෙන්ම නා කියා ගත් අප නැවතතත් මුලතිව් මහා වනාන්තරය දෙසට ගමන් කලේ ඈත අතීතයේ සිටම පැවතුනා වූ "කුරුන්දි විහාරය" සොයා යාමට යි. කිලෝමීටර් ගණනාවක දුශ්කර ගමන් මගක් ඔස්සේ ගමන් කල අප අවසානයේ "කුරුන්දි පුරාණ විහාරස්ථානය" වෙතට ගමන් කලේ පැය ගණනකට පසුවයි.

අතීතයේ සිට පැවති බෞද්ධ උරුමය ගැනත් ඉතිහාසයේ තිබූ බෞද්ධ සිද්ධස්ථාන ගැනත් සාක්ෂි සාධක සපයමින් මුලතිව් මහ වන මැද විරාජමානව තිබෙනා "කුරුන්දි විහාරය" සැබැවින්ම ඉතා සුන්දර සහ පූජනීය පුද බිමකි.

පැය ගණනාවක් එහි රැදී සිටි අප පසුව ඉන් පිටතට පැමිනියේ මෙම පින් බිමේ අතීත තොරතුරු ගැනත් මෙම මහා උරුමය රැක ගැනීමට ප්‍රධානත්වය ගෙන කටයුතු සිදු කල මෙම පින් බිමේ නායක ස්වාමීන් වහන්සේ වන ගල්කන්දේ සාන්තබෝදී හිමියන් සොයා යාමටයි.

Imagine waking up to a stunning sunrise at a bird sanctuary, surrounded by the gentle cold breeze and a lush forest on one side. This was our camp for the night, and it truly felt like a dream. After enjoying a delicious fish curry with bread, we had a restful night and awoke to the beauty of Muththiyankattu Lake right in front of us. It’s a remarkable place, perfect for photography, especially for capturing the vibrant birdlife and the natural surroundings.

After refreshing ourselves with a dip in the lake, we set off on a drive through the thick Mulathivu forest, heading to our next destination, the Kurundi Ancient Temple. This monastery, built by King Ballatanaga between 109-104 BCE, is indicated in history. After that many kings have had connections to this temple, and it’s revered as a significant site for Buddhists, believed to have been visited by Lord Buddha during his second journey to Sri Lanka. The atmosphere there is peaceful, with ruins and historical artefacts that tell the stories of its rich Buddhist heritage.
I genuinely encourage anyone to visit these remarkable places. The stories and beauty they hold are treasures worth sharing, ensuring they remain cherished for generations to come.
