Walead Beshty is a British-born artist and writer best known for his work in photography and sculpture, although his bodies of work span a large variety of media. Often addressing labor, bodies and networks in relation to art objects and their production, his work moves beyond the traditional confines of medium to create a rigorous and diverse artistic practice. These thematics extend into his large body of writing and curatorial projects, which span the last fifteen years. Beshty will discuss his works in the exhibition Progressive Praxis in relation to current and ongoing projects.

Beshty received his BFA from Bard College in 1999 and MFA from Yale University in 2002. His work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions worldwide and is included in numerous public collections including: Art Institute of Chicago; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Tate, London; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Most recently, Beshty’s collected writings, 33 Texts: 93,614 Words: 581,035 Characters: Selected Writings (2003–2015), was published by JRP|Ringier in 2016. He is currently organizing an expanded version of the group exhibition Picture Industry for the CCS Bard Hessel Museum, and has upcoming exhibitions at Rat Hole Gallery in Tokyo, Petzel Gallery in New York, Regen Projects in Los Angeles, Presentation House Gallery in Vancouver, and MAMCO in Geneva.
