In the early 80s, punk was languishing in Dublin, and two key figures of that scene, Jude Carr and Carol Walters (guitarist for the all-girl punk band The Boy Scouts), moved to London to eventually form a new, somewhat trashy garage punk group, BAD KARMA BECKONS. Apparently, their live shows were truly powerful, and they managed to record an MLP (Mutate And Survive, 1986) with raucous, fresh, and catchy songs, such as "Six Brides For Jerry Lee," perhaps the most remembered for a music video that you can still find on YouTube. They gave us another great track, "Listen," on the fourth and final volume of Greg Shaw's "Battle of the Garages" collection, which, under the title "Tomorrow the World!", was dedicated to European bands from the Netherlands (The Other Side), Spain (Los Negativos, Sex Museum), the United Kingdom (Green Telescope, Surfadelics...), Italy, Greece, Germany... Greg Shaw commented the following in the album's liner notes: "...since we began searching for signs of life beyond the horizon three years ago, we must consider that Europe is taking the lead in the garage-psych movement...there is enough diversity and creative energy to inspire a whole generation of young rebels. Meanwhile, the Battle continues..."
