Spending Christmas in San Diego, California with family this year meant more to me than I expected. As much as I love being at Harvard and all the growth that comes with it, it can get lonely sometimes. Being back home in Southern California, surrounded by my extended family and cousins, reminded me that I am never really doing this alone.
This was my first time back in California since August, when we were all together for my cousin’s wedding. Coming back during the holidays felt different. Slower. Warmer. Full of laughter in the kitchen, late night talks, and that specific kind of chaos that only family can create. There is something grounding about sitting around a table with people who have known you your whole life.
Harvard pushes me in the best ways, but Christmas break in San Diego gave me space to breathe. And honestly, I needed that.
If you’ve ever moved away for school or work, you probably know that strange mix of independence and homesickness. This trip reminded me why going back home matters. It resets you. It fills you up again.
Grateful for family time in California, grateful for Christmas in San Diego, and grateful that no matter where I go, I have people who make me feel less alone.
