Making Rockin' Christmas Ornaments using Borax Crystals

This is a neat diy that you can try..

1. Gather your styrofoam and pipe cleaners. The 1st thing we need to do is build our ornament. We started with an image.

2. Once your ornament is built you can poke holes throughout the structure. This will help facilitate the crystal growth.

3.Coat ornament using borax and glue. This gives the crystals something to grab onto & also facilitate faster growth.

4. Attach the string to top of ornament. The top should be reinforced with a piece of wire. We want to make sure the ornament can be supported and will last.

5. Make up the supersaturated borax solution in container large enough to cover the the ornament. The ornament should not touch the bottom or sides of the container when suspended from the string.

6. Submerged the ornament. Check every 12-hours. The ornament will crystallize pretty fast. You don't want to over crystallize it!!!

7. Use a basic dremel type set to shape the ornament

8. Seal with primer for extra protection. Paint with desired colors and apply a glaze coat for extra beautiful look. (When painting you can include a name and or year for extra fun on the back.)
