The SUMPs for BSR project organised a free 5-module online training programme on Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP).
It is designed especially for mobility planners and experts in small and mid-sized cities throughout the Baltic Sea Region, but is open to all interested professionals.
This module focuses on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) as a key component of effective Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning. It explains why M&E is essential not only for tracking progress but also for supporting evidence-based decision-making and accountability in SUMP implementation.
The webinar introduces a monitoring and evaluation framework developed within the SUMPs for BSR project, including a clear process description and practical tools tailored to cities with different capacities. It highlights how M&E helps cities better understand their mobility situation, address data gaps (including in active mobility and urban logistics), and plan sustainable measures with confidence.
The module guides participants through the main steps of creating a local monitoring and evaluation plan, selecting meaningful and realistic indicators.
Dr. Marcin Wołek from the University of Gdańsk, a recognised researcher and practitioner in sustainable urban mobility planning, presented practical approaches to measuring progress and defining effective indicators.
City experts from Panevėžys, Lithuania, and Gävle, Sweden, shared practical examples and lessons learned from monitoring and evaluation processes.
