ABOUT THE COUNTDOWN:

This video is a countdown/ranking of all 142 songs in the Disney Animation Canon. It is the result of the "Disney Song Elimination Game" on the IMDB message board of the movie "Tangled." All 142 songs were listed together, each starting with 5 points, and then each member was allowed to give three songs of their choice either +1 or -2 points until only 1 song remained standing.

It took a whopping 9 months to finish this game, taking from May 5, 2010 all the way to February 11, 2011 before the last song was finally eliminated. HOW THE SONGS WERE SELECTED:

Only songs from the 50 films in the official Walt Disney Animated Classics canon were used. That means no songs from Pixar movies, Disney sequels, live-action Disney movies like "Mary Poppins," or non-canon animated films like "A Goofy Movie" were used.

From that list, only songs that have a definitive verse structure and are at least 1:30 long were included. There were a lot of borderline calls here, but this is why mini-songs like "Lack of Education," "A-E-I-O-U," "With A Smile and a Song," "The Silly Song," and "Casey Jr" were not included. EXCEPTION: if the song is repeated as a motif throughout the movie. This is why "Hi-Diddle-De-Dee (An Actor's Life for Me)" was included. (This was in order to prevent the list from becoming overstuffed. It might never have gotten done otherwise.)

Only songs that were composed specifically for the movie can be included. Thus, musical moments like "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" from The Lion King and the Elvis songs from Lilo & Stitch were not included.

Songs only appearing in the movie's end credits were not added unless requested by voters. ("Someday," "If I Never Knew You," "True to Your Heart," and "My Funny Friend and Me" were added like this.)

So with that said, enjoy this 6-part video series! It is a ranking of every single major musical moment from every single movie in the entire Disney Animation Canon!


DISCLAIMER:

I had basically no control over how this list turned out. It was completed entirely by voting. There were a lot of songs on this list that I would have personally ranked a lot higher, but that's just how the dice fell.

Granted, pretty much all of these songs are downright amazing. So even though these are the bottom 29 songs in the countdown, this is Disney we're talking about, so even their worst songs are still amazing! So even if you don't agree with the rankings, just enjoy listening to all of the great songs. I hope you have as much fun watching these music moments as I did making this video!
