Its an unique thing in our sport, that you can actually touch its history. My short visit to buoux, the birthplace of hard sport climbing, felt like a very inspiring travel to the past. Sitting in the valley thinking about the crazy breed of climbers who lived at the cliffs and where fully dedicated to the climbing livestyle 40 years ago and touching the same holds as the worlds best climbers from that era, really felt like an inspiring history class.
La Rose et le Vampire is one of these relics from the past to touch.
Its the last route that antoine le Menestrel manufactured, putting an end to an area in which chipping was not considered ethically problematic.
As a routesetter its also inspiring to see that antoine actually created an iconic move, that nowadays is still called „rose move“ . What a compliment as a setter that a move gets its name from your creation.
So besides beeing a historic line for the sport as it counted as one of the hardest in the world in the 80‘s, its also a peace of history of the job of Routesetting.
