Asset 1: Seawater pipelines in Chile

Were you aware that Copper is essential for your smartphones? The Centinela mine in Chile is one of the world’s largest mines providing copper but requires a lot of water. To address this, Chile’s largest transmission company Transelec and leading water infra operator Almar Water Solutions will operate an existing and construct an additional 144km long seawater pipeline that will help to reduce the use of freshwater resources. Both pipelines will transport seawater between the Pacific coast and the Centinela Mine in Chile’s Atacama Desert.
This landmark project for Chile will help combat drought and climate change by reducing the use of continental water in mining operations while contributing to the responsible development of the economy.
