It's been 6 years since Mr Bowie died.
Here's my little tribute.
(Camerawork, except vocal by Shehina Fazal)
Bowie said that this song (and the album) was about losing spirituality and intellect, after Neitszche's proposition that "God is dead", Einstein's relativity theory and Freud's exposition of personality.
In an interview, for this song, he said the words came out of him and he couldn't stop them, that it was a traumatic thing and afterwards he felt awful and was sobbing. It's about the fear that there is no spiritual plane, that his spirituality has no basis, the fear of death and nothingness and feeling the creeping approach of death and abyss, like life draining away.
