The Steamer Juno - Bowmanville
This is an easily accessible shore dive about 200 ft from shore in 20 ft of water. There is not a lot left of this once, 140 ft long wooden steamer. What remains makes for an easy enjoyable shore dive. The Juno, was built in 1885 and after transporting goods and material for almost 30 years, it was purchased to be used as a break water. In 1914, most of the machinery on this ship was removed and it sat close to its present day location helping to load bigger more modern ships with stone from a local quarry. After being hit by waves for a couple years and not being maintained the steamer slowly slipped beneath the surface to its present day location. It is sometimes marked with jugs by local divers and lies on a sandy bottom. To get to the site, it is easiest to take the 401 to the Waverly exit and head south towards the lake, Coordinates for the wreck are 43° 53' 0.9996" N 78° 0' 2.0016" W
