From 1989 to 2000, London Transport ran a series of special trains from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Amersham on the Metropolitan Line using a variety of different steam locomotives. These usually ran double headed or topped and tailed with a diesel or electric locomotive as these were needed to provide air braking power.

This is Part One of a two part video shot in May, 1994. It starts at Rickmansworth where we see ex GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tank now in London Transport livery and numbered L99. At the rear is Metropolitan Railway Metropolitan-Vickers Bo-Bo electric locomotive No. 12 SARAH SIDDONS. We then move to Moor Park where I filmed LNER N2 Class 0-6-2T 69523 and B.R. Standard 2-6-4T 80079.

Although they were in everyday use, I’m glad that I also filmed some of the Metropolitan Line A60 stock trains as these are now history.
