Dear Viewers,
Part 2 of the aircraft paint series is live!
In this episode, I dive into the importance of properly vetting your airplane, your paint shop, and the parts and products being used to reassemble your aircraft. A fresh coat of paint can completely transform an airplane, but what’s underneath (and how it’s put back together) matters even more.
Thank you all for the thoughtful comments on Part 1. I genuinely enjoyed reading every one of them.
I was even emailed by a former owner of N3056X who used this airplane to build hours before reluctantly selling it and going on to become a high-time military and commercial pilot. Stories like that are such a reminder that these airplanes carry history, and people’s dreams, with them.
Last week, I attended the annual IA seminar at the community college where I earned my A&P back in 2017. During the seminar, it was mentioned that 87% of our general aviation fleet was certified before 1981.The vast majority of our GA aircraft have already far outlived their predicted service lives, and when properly maintained, flown regularly and/or stored correctly, they can continue to do so for decades to come. That statistic underscores why quality workmanship, disciplined maintenance practices, and thoughtful restoration decisions matter so much.
Thanks for watching!
Sincerely,
Chelsea
