Описание: We're sharing some of the Yakisugi process with you as we found it very relaxing. No talking in this video, just some Japanese inspired music.

Yakisugi is better known as Shou Sugi Ban outside of Japan due to a translation error.

It’s an ancient wood preservation technique traditionally done with dry cedar planks. They would tie three planks together to create a triangular chimney and light a fire at the bottom and let it burn for up to five minutes in order to char the top 3-4mm of the surface of the wood.

We used fresh cut pine, and a blow torch. So not exactly the traditional method but we hope it provides similar protection against insects, mould and as a fire retardant.

The finished look brings out the Grain of the wood and the darker colour should look fantastic against the white ceilings in our new ruin In Portugal.

I hope the video conveys the relaxation we felt during the process! ❤️
