Amazing ride! Barry Geraghty steers RIVERSIDE THEATRE to victory in the 2012 Ryanair Chase

Описание: One of the great rides - favourite Riverside Theatre was struggling from an early stage with a succession of poor jumps, but Barry Geraghty refused to lie down as the jockey conjured up a most unlikely victory in the 2012 Ryanair Chase for trainer Nicky Henderson and owner and actor James Nesbitt.

Riverside Theatre kept on doggedly up the famous Cheltenham hill and prevailed by half a length from Albertas Run with Medermit back in third. Captain Chris finished in fourth.

Nesbitt said: "I rarely am lost for words but it was extraordinary.

"He just wasn't travelling that well and I was very nervous, and then to find the courage he showed and how Barry got that out of him. It was a hell of a battle. I'd never in a million years dream of it.

"Forget the Oscar. That's it, I've done it all now.

"It's a fantastic sport, this. It's easy for me to say that, having just won the Ryanair, but it was a glorious celebration of everything that's good about sport, not just horse racing.

"The courage the horse showed, the ride that Barry gave him and the training performance that Nicky has given. Even to have a wee bit of that, it's pasted into the album of my memory, I'm telling you."
