China officially recognizes 56 ethnic groups — but the Gejia people are not one of them.

Yet their identity is deeply rooted in a powerful legend: they believe they are the descendants of Hou Yi, the mythical archer who shot down nine suns to protect their people. Many of their ancient totems carry symbols from the Hou Yi and the Ten Suns story — motifs still preserved today through their distinctive Gejia batik traditions.

Meet Apo Indigo Workshop and their family of six who are keeping their culture and traditions alive through the beautiful art of batik, and through their sheer presence, helping us all to understand how happiness could be so simple — doing what you love, with the people you love, and living a steady, peaceful life.
