The arrangement of this song started out as a joke in 1983, at Kalisa's Restaurant on Cannery Row, Monterey, California. The Bar Crowd from The Boiler Room etc. would enter the Restaurant after 2 AM (02:00 hours) when the legal sale of Alcohol is suspended until 6 AM (06:00 Hours). Kalisa would take away the Beer & Wine from her tables, and keep her Expresso machine on the boil.
These "Night Owls" would drink Coffee and Tea, and keep talking to each other, rather than going home. On listening to Traditional Folk Music played on Sean's various types of Bagpipes (Scots Pipes, Irish Pipes, Spanish Gaita, French Cornemuse etc.) with the excitement of Ron's wonderful SWASH (Drum) accompaniment, a certain member the Crowd demanded "ROCK AND ROLL" instead. With a sudden inspiration, Sean looked at Ron and said, Let's give them.... this famous song. The change of mood was immediate, the Crowd went "Nuts". Yelling, "Hey ! These Guys Are Great" ! "Hey ! Play That Again" !!! etc. As the prowess of any Musician is really judged on whether or not the Audience can identify the song being played. Finally, after playing this song at Ron's Gigs for another 4 years, they got to Paul Emory's studio in Grass Valley, Ca. and recorded this track in June, 1987. It was released in a small run of " "Lost It In The Surf" Cassette Tapes by Emery's Bennett House Records label.
