Friends, I hope you’re all doing well. Today we continue with the fourth and last part of out checkers game project!

In this video tutorial, we’ll focus on how to make the round box of our checkers game out of leather. For this project, I used two types of leathers. The first was vegetable tanned leather colored with red dye and the second one some black cowhide leather. This last one was lined with black pigskin to give the leather parts more strength and stiffness before assembling. You can use your preferred type of leather for this project, just remember this set is designed to be used with 2 mm thick leather and vegetable tanned leather works best for this project.

For this project, you’ll need:

Card stock paper is optional but great if you wish to give stiffness to your pattern
Vegetable tanned leather (2mm/5oz thickness) or your preferred type of leather, just make sure it’s not to thick if you plan on combining and glueing several layers like I did in the video.
A pair of scissors
A cutting mat or poly-block
A poly-mallet
Some tape to fix the pattern to the leather
A scratch awl

A wool dauber if you’re using vegetable tanned leather and plan on staining the board.
Your preferred type of stains if you wish to paint the board
An X-acto knife or your preferred type of leather knife
Carnauba creme
Tokonole burnishing gum
A wooden edge slicker
Saddle stitching thread
Beeswax
A pair of stitching needles
