Jack Goth was a metallurgist and metallurgical engineer who successfully led worldwide introductions for AMAX Inc. throughout Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, and South Africa. He built relationships focusing on molybdenum, nickel, tungsten, gold, silver, magnesium, and copper markets.
Goth was promoted into sales management where he built sales to $15 million per year. This work earned Jack a Vice President of Sales position in 1968 and later President of AMAX’s Molybdenum Division in 1975. Jack developed marketing and pricing strategies worldwide and built up domestic and international sales organizations expanding annual revenues to more than $150 million per year.
In 1978, Jack was named Group Executive of the Molybdenum, Nickel, Tungsten, Magnesium, and Specialty Metals Group. Jack led investments in mining, refining, processing, and shipping activities worldwide. By 1982, he was named Senior Executive Vice President of eight divisions: Molybdenum, Nickel, Tungsten, Magnesium, Specialty Metals, Precious Metals, Base Metals, and Iron Ore.
After retiring from AMAX in 1985, Jack served as a corporate director and consultant to mining companies and service firms. Jack presented at the National Association of Recycling Industries Forum, London Metal Bulletin Forum, American Metal Market Symposium, American Mining Congress, American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, Colorado Mining Association, and Japanese Metallurgical Society. Jack also served on the National Strategic Materials and Minerals Program Advisory Committee, Natural Resources Committee of the U.S. Council for International Business, and the Board of Trustees of the Center for the Study of the Presidency.
Jack has been recognized by the Colorado Mining Association with its Saint Barbara Award, by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration with the Arthur C. Daman Award and “Mining Camps Speak” Award, and by his alma mater South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and Distinguished Alumni Award.
