Türkiye is marking three years since twin earthquakes struck the south of the country, killing more than 50,000 people and displacing more than a million.
The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, hit the province of Kahramanmaras, releasing energy two thousand times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Hours later, a 7.7 magnitude quake shook the same area. Known as the Disaster of the Century here in Türkiye, Friday will be a day of commemorations to remember the victims.
Commemoration ceremonies are under way. Our correspondent, Kubra Akkoc is in Hatay, one of the hardest hit provinces, and she is joined by the Museum Hotel Antakya CEO, Sabiha Asfuroglu.
