ADB Helps Restore Livelihoods in Flood-Vulnerable Communities in Banten

Описание: Floods in Indonesia are increasing, disrupting the economy and hitting vulnerable groups hardest. Climate change is expected to exacerbate flood risks through more intense rainfall and rising sea levels.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) supported the Government of Indonesia and river-based communities in managing and mitigating flood risks in the Ciujung and Ambon river basins through the Flood Management in Selected River Basins Project implemented in 2016–2024. The project helped shift the focus from emergency response to proactive disaster risk mitigation. The Sustainable Infrastructure Assistance Program Phase II (SIAP2), financed by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), supported the project through technical assistance.

The Livelihood Restoration Program was implemented under the project to ensure that no affected people were left worse off as a result of the project. In addition to addressing physical flood risks, the project also managed social risks, which are particularly significant for vulnerable groups and severely affected individuals. The Government of Indonesia—at both national and district levels—and ADB worked collaboratively with affected communities to implement agreed interventions that safeguarded social outcomes while enhancing resilience.
