The Tamiyah Prosecution in Fayoum, Egypt, placed 17-year-old Silvana Atef Fanous in a government-affiliated care home following concerns over her exploitation and alleged coerced religious conversion, according to Coptic Solidarity. Authorities have allowed her family to visit and permitted a church priest to monitor her well-being, aiming to resolve disputes that contributed to her vulnerability.

Lawyer Maged Younan reported that Silvana, a minor under Egyptian Child Law, was taken by strangers and pressured to change her religion. She also suffers from intellectual and learning disabilities, highlighting the importance of protective measures and careful family support. Videos circulating online, showing her declaring conversion and criticising her family, raised serious concerns about her mental health and coercion.

Silvana went missing on October 28, 2025, after a minor argument with her sister and was later found with a man falsely claiming to be her guardian. Authorities eventually intervened, and the placement in a care home aims to safeguard her rights, mental health, and social well-being. Officials stressed that families must remain involved and that religion must not be used to influence minors.
