2023 CSCC Thruxton Review - Wet & Wild Fun In Our Jaguar XJS…Silverware Awarded For Our Efforts!

Описание: What a great day Tom & James had at Thruxton with the CSCC back on 6th May 2023!

Having watched the weather all week, we knew it would be a wet day, but as we arrived at Thruxton it was pouring with rain, so we were thankful for bringing the gazebo in an attempt to keep the car dry as possible throughout the day!

It wasn’t long until we were out for qualifying and we were warned by the assembly team of just how wet it was on track and they were right, it is no exaggeration to say that in the back sections of the circuit visibility was nonexistent and some cases with the spray from other cars it was hard to see the rear rain light on other competitors cars, let alone their brake lights and the track. Marshall posts on the left and right side of the circuit were often the only points of reference!

Yet again the changes Tom has made to the car over the winter were transformational and the car is so much more predictable, the understeer has gone and it behaves just as a front engine, rear wheel drive car should with predictable oversteer as required, and handles so much better than an XJS ever should!

The other weapon in our armoury was using Yokohama tyres, which offer superior grip - which proved a successful decision.

We qualified 10th overall, and more importantly, we were the 1st of the Jaguars as a result of James having a clear lap with ‘OK’ visibility!

The rain had stopped by the time of the race and with the track conditions confirmed as ‘overcast & wet’, we hoped the rain would hold off during the 40 minute battle and track action. Luckily it did and what a race…Tom had an epic start and charged his way up to the top 5 before an early safety car was deployed and maintained the position before handing the car over to James.

With a drying track the lap times we’re getting quicker, and the car was performing brilliantly. James’ concentration was sharpened with a catching Lawrence Coppock in his 6.0 litre V12 in the closing laps of the race, but as the chequered flag fell we brought the XJS home 5th overall and 2nd in class.

However our celebrations were slightly dampened when we learned of our 60sec penalty owing to speeding in the pit lane at the driver change. As a result the final classification meant we were 3rd in class and 10th overall.

Despite the disappointment, our efforts were still rewarded with some silverware and more importantly the car performed faultlessly and having had a full be-brief on the journey back to the workshop we know the car has more to give as we both get more seat time learning its full potential!
