Scripture Focus: Luke 14

I. Surrender the Seat of Status
We mistakenly believe the center is where life is.
Imagine younger Pharisees out-sprinting elders, diving for Seat Number Two—the center seat of honor.
Jesus shows us that the further you get from the center, the closer you get to him.
Taking the "lowest seat" isn't a social trick; it’s a recognition of our spiritual poverty.

II. Stop Making an Alibi
CAPITAL (The Field): Being too invested in possessions.
COMMERCE (The Oxen): Being too busy with work.
COMFORT (The Wife): Being too focused on family.
We must remember there is lots of room in our Father's house.
Jesus seeks after the outcasts on the fringes of society.

III. Settle the Math of Sacrifice
You lose "seat number two" to gain a heavenly kingdom.
The invitation is free, but the following is "Full" (Costly/Full surrender).
If you spend your whole life sprinting for Seat Number Two, you might actually get it; you might get the promotion and the prestige.
The Great Physician isn't at the center seat; he is over on the fringes with the man with dropsy.

The Big Idea: The view from the lowest seat is the only one that lets you see the face of Jesus.
