Описание: Welcome to Mumbai India. Today we will explore Elephanta Caves here in Mumbai.
To Reach the Elephanta Caves,
One can take a Toy train ride or prefer to walk.
Toy train ride would cost Rs.10 per person.
But, we preferred to walk since it would hardly take 10 mins.
Passenger Tax in Collected here,
This is a tax collected to keep the Island Clean.
This is the ticket counter to Elephanta Caves.
Ticket would cost Rs.40 per Adult for Indian and Rs.600 for a Foreigner.
The Island features two hills separated by a narrow valley.
You need to climb the hill to reach the actual caves.
On the way you can find numerous stalls.
You can buy souvenirs or some snacks for refreshment.
The Elephanta Caves are a collection of cave temples
Predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
The Elephanta Caves contain rock cut stone sculptures.
Mostly in high relief, that show syncretism of Hindu and Buddhist ideas and iconography.
This is the Trimurti Sadashiva (three-faced Shiva)
This is the large monolithic 5.45 meters tall statue narrate Hindu mythologies.
Although there are multiple theories of the island origin.
Many scholars consider them to have been completed by about 550 CE
There are 7 different Caves on the island.
And only 5 of these caves are permitted to visitors.
There are multiple sculptures and carvings.
Most of the carvings are ruined during Portuguese era.
I would recommend you to visit this place at 9:30 AM.
It would be so hot in the noon and you couldn't enjoy the place.
On the way back to Gateway of India,
You can take any ferry since your ticket cover two ways.
We got a chance to see this huge Container ship.
Never seen a container ship before.
