🏗️ History
The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris, marking 100 years since the French Revolution. Gustave Eiffel’s company designed and built it, though the original idea came from engineers Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, with architect Stephen Sauvestre refining the look.

At first, many Parisians hated it—calling it an eyesore! It was even supposed to be torn down after 20 years, but its usefulness as a radio tower saved it. Over time, it became a beloved symbol of Paris and was declared a monument historique in 1964

🧱 Structural Genius
The tower is made of wrought iron, not steel, and weighs about 7,300 tons.
It’s built from 18,038 individual iron parts, connected by 2.5 million rivets.
The four legs are set on a 125-meter square base, spreading the weight evenly so it didn’t need deep foundations.
Its curved shape isn’t just pretty—it’s mathematically designed to handle wind pressure. Even in strong storms, it sways only about 9 cm.

🛠️ Construction Feats
The tower was assembled in just over 2 years—a record at the time—with about 300 workers on-site.
It was inspired by the Latting Observatory in New York and pushed the limits of iron construction.
The design was so precise that no major accidents occurred during construction, which was rare for that era.

🎨 Design Details
Architect Stephen Sauvestre added the decorative arches at the base and the glass pavilions on the first level.
The tower is repainted every 7 years using 60 tons of paint, in three shades of brown to enhance its silhouette.
It has three public levels, with restaurants, viewing decks, and even a champagne bar at the top.
