Finally got around to installing my shop heater and converting it to propane. Here’s a quick video showing it starting up. Model PV30, induced exhaust 80% efficient, intermittent pilot, 30,000 BTU, by modine.
Out of all the unit heaters i come across with exceptions of the indestructable heat exchangers back in the day, these modines tend to hold up the best if installed and maintained properly. I’ve seen far more of the pink reznor “F” series with the aluminized steel “venturi” heat exchangers fail (the ones that look like a stretched hourglass), than these style modines.
None the less, this one is relatively low hours, and was inspected by a licensed and certified hvac technician (myself), and does not mean you should just go pick up any old gas fired unit heater, or any gas appliance for that fact, off of marketplace and install it.
Another disclaimer to mention is that in this video i filmed i had just completed installation of the heater and had not yet tuned the gas valve, air shutter, or checked complete combustion analysis yet to ensure it was running properly and safely. All i had done was install to manufactuer’s specs and replace the orifices for the burner and pilot to the appropriate size for LP stated from the manufacturer. I ran the heater to ensure everything functioned as intended (the first time it did not, and I had to replace the ignition control), and next time I returned to my shop I completed the adjustments and made sure everything was where it needed to be.
I cannot stress enough that without the proper tools and knowledge (and license) nobody should ever be converting any appliance to propane not to mention installing any gas equipment.
