Body Shots in Wing Chun?? Absolutely!

Описание: Listen up, guys. We’ve said it before: the forms provide the “raw” material - that is, the technical aspects, of our self-defense. For this reason they should be taught comprehensively by conscientious and knowledgeable instructors to each generations so as not to lose the key historical foundations. We’re never advocating for an evisceration of the system. On the contrary, we’re arguing for wisdom in the use of the system.

A great example of lack of wisdom is the obsession with using Wing Chun in a manner that looks like something we’ve presupposed is acceptable. This is a common, and damaging, mistake that needs correcting. Why? Because it makes the forms and drills (like chi-sao, lop-sao, etc.) the goal rather than a means to an end. The forms and drills are a big part of what we’re doing - they’re how we develop technical precision, after all. We need them. But just the same, we need application training and tactical liberty to use the “raw” material in whatever way that works. Eschewing hooks and uppercuts to the body while infighting because we arbitrarily think it’s boxing, not Wing Chun, is illogical and, in this case, potentially deadly. The material (technique) is already there within the system (in the forms) and we should be open-minded enough to understand that we don’t owe Wing Chun anything. It’s a tool we use. We aren’t Wing Chun’s tool, it’s ours.
