Farmers in Crisis: SC Report Ignored? | NCRB Report Reveals 1 Suicide Every Hour

Описание: India’s agriculture is facing a deepening crisis.

🔴 The NCRB Report 2023 reveals that 1 farmer dies by suicide every hour, with 10,786 farmer-sector suicides in 2023 alone. Majority of deaths are reported from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

But this is not new. Just last year (Dec 2024), the Supreme Court-appointed High-Level Committee, chaired by Justice Nawab Singh, released a report exposing the same structural problems:

✅ Farmers earn only ₹27 per day from farming activities.
✅ Average monthly agricultural household income: ₹10,218 – below basic survival standards.
✅ Punjab & Haryana farmers are trapped in debts worth ₹73,673 crore & ₹76,630 crore.
✅ Non-institutional loans add 21-32% more burden.
✅ Since 1995, over 4 lakh farmers & farm workers have committed suicide.
✅ Agricultural growth stagnates at just 2-3%, much below national needs.
✅ Climate change, falling water tables, and soil degradation make things worse.

⚠️ The real concern: Despite this Supreme Court warning last year, the situation remains unchanged. The latest NCRB data shows farmer suicides continue at alarming levels — proving that policy inaction is costing lives every day.

🔑 Why This Matters:
National Economy at Risk → Agriculture employs 46% workforce but contributes only 15% to GDP.
Food Security Threatened → Low productivity, climate stress, and debt trap may create future food shortages.
Social Stability in Danger → Rising despair in rural India may fuel unrest.
