Quiet hot tent canoe camping on a remote loch in the Scottish Highlands.

With the winter solstice marking the longest night of the year, it felt like the perfect time to test some new winter camping gear.

The weather wasn’t especially cold, but true to Scottish tradition it was mixed — dry spells, a bit of snow, light winds, and of course a sudden downpour of heavy rain 😂🤷🏻♂️.
I paddled up and down the loch by canoe, even stopping off on a couple of small islands along the way. A calm winter adventure focused on atmosphere, solitude, and natural outdoor sounds.
