Stephanie Saint Clair was a bold and powerful Black woman in history who built an empire in Harlem, standing tall against gangsters and corrupt law enforcement. Known as “Madame Queen,” she’s an icon of women empowerment, affirmations, and resistance. Her untold story belongs in every Black history documentary and playlist dedicated to Black women's history month.
This strong Black woman defied every stereotype, from the strong Black woman trope to the “I am a strong Black woman” movement. Her life is motivation, poetry, and power. She created opportunity, uplifted Black women who only help Black business owners, and lived with the kind of fearlessness that deserves a place in crash course history.
This short is for the little girl who says, “I'm a strong Black woman,” for those celebrating Black women empowerment, Black women's club movement, and affirming our place in history. It’s for Black women podcast creators, read aloud educators, and Black women in Pakistan or the Bronx looking for their reflection in greatness.
It’s also for those teaching Black history for kids—through music, praise dance, documentaries, songs for kids, speeches, and read alouds. Whether it's Black women in history song, bold women in Black history read aloud, or African American women history—Stephanie Saint Clair is the story.
